So it took a little more work than expected, but I'm happy I kept at it after the first couple of blunders. The researchers have parsed the whole of Wiktionary and other sources, and compiled everything into a single unified resource. That's when I stumbled across the UBY project - an amazing project which needs more recognition. However, after a day's work wrangling it into a database I realised that there were far too many errors (especially with the part-of-speech tagging) for it to be viable for Word Type.įinally, I went back to Wiktionary - which I already knew about, but had been avoiding because it's not properly structured for parsing. This caused me to investigate the 1913 edition of Websters Dictionary - which is now in the public domain. I initially started with WordNet, but then realised that it was missing many types of words/lemma (determiners, pronouns, abbreviations, and many more). The dictionary is based on the amazing Wiktionary project by wikimedia. And since I already had a lot of the infrastructure in place from the other two sites, I figured it wouldn't be too much more work to get this up and running. I had an idea for a website that simply explains the word types of the words that you search for - just like a dictionary, but focussed on the part of speech of the words. Both of those projects are based around words, but have much grander goals. " The " after-strain " comes at the final stanza the composer and Schubert scholar Brian Newbould observed that for three-quarters of the song's final stanza, Schubert departed from the strophe to give a musical impression of the trout being caught, but returned to the strophe for the final couplet. For those interested in a little info about this site: it's a side project that I developed while working on Describing Words and Related Words. The different verse is the third, and it demonstrates the " admixture of dramatic traits " in the lyrical song, which Fischer-Dieskau calls " a classic example of the strophic song with " Abgesang ".In 1618 she published a collection of thirty-six solo songs and soprano / bass duets ( " Il primo libro delle musiche " ) that is a compendium of contemporary styles, ranging from intensely moving, harmonically adventurous laments to joyful sacred songs in Italian and Latin, to witty strophic songs about the joys and perils of romantic love. It's difficult to see strophic song in a sentence."Whither Must I Wander " offers the first of Vaughan Williams's many " big tunes, " the essentially strophic song recalls happy days of the past and reminds us that while the world is renewed each spring, our traveller cannot bring back his past. This influence is most evident in his strophic songs, one of which is in 5 / 4 ( although actually notated in duple meter ) asymmetrical meters are a normal feature of Balkan folk music but are absent in Italian. This work, probably the most historically important composition of Cavalieri to survive, consists of alternating speech, strophic songs, recitative-like sections and madrigalian parts subsequent oratorios often used it as a starting-point.There is another group of new compositions on new texts, the conductus, which exist in a variety of forms : monophonic strophic songs and simple or complex conductus for two to four voices. All his known compositions, of which there a considerable number in manuscript, are vocal works : mostly sacred strophic songs for weddings and funerals, with some cantatas and chorale concertos. In " Gute Nacht ", the strophic song that opens the song cycle " Winterreise ", Schubert changes from minor to major for the last verse. Use of deceptive cadences, chromaticism, strophic songs favoured by his contemporaries, instead building the form around the nature of the work. All three are lyric genres in the technical sense that they were strophic songs with either musical accompaniment or introduction on a stringed instrument.
